"Don't
eat me" said the quivering fish.
The
shark was tactful enough not to smile or at least confused
enough by new found emotions not to move.
"Dance
some more", he snorted, amused yet addicted and what, pray,
would you do?
The
sea bass danced for death.
The shark
watched, hypnotised by the little fish's terror, seeing for
the first time his true power and feeling for the first time
what it was to feel.
Though
something strange is seldom savoured until a taste is acquired,
the beauty of the fish made him forgetful and he watched.
And fish
she was but female first and soon they both looked upon each
other with different eyes.
That
evening a sharp-eyed bird might have seen a great steady fin
slice its way out to sea with a little darting one behind,
then ahead, then behind again as two new lovers talked as
only two new lovers can.
So it
came to pass that the beautiful sea bass never saw her shoal
again and a great white shark became a vegetarian.
